Tips & Suggestions

Get more out of Left 2 Cook.

Install Left 2 Cook as an app on your phone

Left 2 Cook works right in your browser, but adding it to your home screen makes it feel and open like a regular app — no browser bar, its own icon, one tap to launch.

iPhone / iPad (Safari)

  1. Open Left 2 Cook in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen”.
  4. Tap “Add” in the top right.

Android (Chrome)

  1. Open Left 2 Cook in Chrome.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu in the top right.
  3. Tap “Add to Home screen” (or “Install app”, if offered).
  4. Confirm by tapping “Add” / “Install”.

Once installed, you can launch it straight from your home screen like any other app.

Secure the email account behind your Left 2 Cook login

Left 2 Cook doesn't use passwords — signing in works by emailing you a one-time link. That's more secure than most password logins, but it also means whoever controls your email inbox can sign in to your Left 2 Cook account. A few minutes securing your email pays off:

  • Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) on your email account (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, etc.), so a leaked password alone isn't enough to get in.
  • Use a strong, unique password for your email — ideally generated and stored in a password manager, not reused from another site.
  • Be extra wary of “sign in to your email” phishing emails — since your email is the key to everything else, it's the highest-value target for scammers.
  • Sign out of email on shared or borrowed devices, and avoid staying logged in on public computers.
  • If you ever suspect someone accessed your Left 2 Cook account, go to Account → Security → “Sign out of all other sessions” to immediately boot any other active logins, then secure your email as above.

Get better results from receipt & photo scanning

  • Flatten out the receipt before photographing it, and shoot in good light — crumpled or blurry receipts are harder to read accurately.
  • Double-check the expiry dates the AI estimates after a scan — they're a helpful starting point, not a guarantee. Adjust anything that looks off, especially for fresh produce, meat, or dairy.
  • Photograph ingredients you already have (rather than typing them) when you're in the kitchen and want to add items quickly — it's often faster than manual entry.
  • Remember you get 1 free AI credit per day for your first 3 days — after that, a monthly AI credit pool is part of the paid plan, but manual entry is always free and unlimited.

Get better recipe matches

  • Save recipes as you find them — from a link, a photo of a cookbook page, or by pasting in text — so your recipe collection grows and the “what can I cook” matching gets more useful over time.
  • Keep your pantry current by removing items as you use them up; stale pantry data leads to recipe matches you can't actually make.
  • Check “almost there” recipes (not just “ready now” ones) before a grocery run — it's a quick way to see what one or two extra ingredients would unlock.

Reduce food waste day to day

  • Add items to your pantry as soon as you unpack groceries — it only takes a moment via a receipt scan, and it means expiry sorting is accurate from day one.
  • Check your pantry, sorted soonest-to-expire, before you decide what to cook — it's the fastest way to use things up before they go off.
  • If something in your pantry expires unused, that's useful information — try adjusting how much of that item you buy next time.
