Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 Aug 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Left 2 Cook (the "Service"), a registered business name (ABN: 70 226 083 769) operated by Jason Barles, a sole trader based in Australia ("Left 2 Cook," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

Left 2 Cook lets you save recipes, track what's in your pantry/fridge, and see which recipes you can make with what you have. Core features — manually adding recipes, managing your pantry, and recipe matching — are free with any account, permanently, with no trial period or expiry.

AI-powered features. Free accounts get 1 AI credit per day for their first 3 days (recipe/pantry import from a photo, URL, video, or pasted text; AI recipe generation; or AI ingredient scaling). After that trial window, AI features require an active paid subscription, which grants a monthly pool of AI credits (the amount depends on your plan). Manually adding recipes and pantry items remains free and unlimited regardless of subscription status.

Smart Add (AI clean-up of pantry item names as you type) is a separate, subscriber-only perk: it has no free trial, but it's also not counted against your AI credit pool — any active subscription unlocks unlimited use.

2. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address to create an account. We use passwordless "magic link" sign-in — no password is set or stored. You're responsible for maintaining access to the email account used to sign up, and for any activity that occurs under your account. If you believe your account has been accessed without authorization, use "Sign out of all other sessions" in your Account settings and contact us.

3. Subscriptions and billing

  • Paid plans are billed monthly or annually in advance, as selected at checkout, and processed by Stripe.
  • Displayed prices are reference prices in AUD; Stripe's Adaptive Pricing may charge you in your local currency at checkout. For most currencies, any applicable tax (including GST for Australian customers) is included in the price shown. For USD and CAD, applicable tax is calculated and added on top of the displayed price at checkout.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless canceled before the renewal date.
  • Cancellation: you can cancel anytime from Account → Billing, which takes you to Stripe's billing portal. Cancellation stops future renewals; you retain paid access (AI credits) through the end of the current billing period, after which your account reverts to free-tier access (core features remain available; more AI credits require resubscribing).
  • Refunds. We don't offer refunds for change of mind, early cancellation, or unused AI credits. Where you're entitled to a refund — including under the Australian Consumer Law guarantees described below — contact us via our Contact page with your request; refunds aren't self-service and are processed manually once we've reviewed your request.
  • Your consumer guarantees are not affected. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law (or equivalent consumer protection law in your own country) that cannot lawfully be excluded. If the Service fails to meet a consumer guarantee — for example, a major billing fault on our end — you remain entitled to the remedies the law provides (which can include a refund), regardless of the "no refunds for change of mind" statement above.
  • We reserve the right to change subscription pricing going forward; changes will not apply retroactively to a period you've already paid for, and we'll provide reasonable notice before a price change takes effect on renewal.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to upload, extract, or store content you don't have the right to use (e.g., copyrighted cookbook pages or third-party content used beyond fair use/personal use).
  • Attempt to circumvent AI usage limits (e.g., creating multiple accounts to obtain additional free trial credits).
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, or use automated means to access the Service beyond normal individual use.
  • Upload content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you don't have permission to share.
  • Use the Service to harm, abuse, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts.

Photo content is your responsibility. You control what you photograph and upload for AI import. We don't review or moderate photos before they're sent for processing, and photos are discarded immediately after extraction — see our Privacy Policy. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload and process any photo you submit.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

5. AI-generated content — accuracy disclaimer

Recipe and pantry extraction is performed by AI and may contain errors — including misread ingredients, quantities, units, or instructions. Always review extracted recipes for accuracy before cooking, particularly with respect to allergens, substitutions, and quantities. Left 2 Cook is not responsible for errors in AI-extracted content, and you cook using extracted recipes at your own risk.

6. Intellectual property

You retain ownership of recipes and content you submit. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that content back to you as part of providing the Service. We claim no ownership over your recipe content.

The Left 2 Cook name, branding, and the Service itself (excluding your content) are owned by us and may not be used without permission.

7. Termination

You may stop using the Service and permanently delete your account at any time from your Account page. Deletion is immediate and cancels any active subscription, even if there's unused time remaining in your current billing period — see our Privacy Policy for exactly what account deletion covers. We may suspend or terminate your access for violating these Terms, non-payment, or to protect the Service or other users, with notice where practicable.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranties beyond the consumer guarantees described below — we don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-extracted content will be accurate.

Australian Consumer Law. Our Service comes with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law (or equivalent consumer protection law in your own country), including that services will be provided with due care and skill and be fit for the purpose for which they're commonly acquired. Nothing in this Section 8 excludes, restricts, or modifies those guarantees, or any right or remedy under law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified.

Subject to that, to the maximum extent permitted by law: Left 2 Cook and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service; and our total liability for any claim relating to the Service that isn't a non-excludable consumer guarantee will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. If you're a consumer in another country whose local law gives you rights or protections that apply regardless of this clause, this Section doesn't take those away from you.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you (e.g., by email or a notice on the Service). Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
